Eric Steinhart is one of my favorite philosophers. His last book “Believing in Dawkins: The New Spiritual Atheism” (2020) is a love letter to Richard Dawkins, but not only. The spiritual atheism of Dawkins and Steinhart is very close to my religion, and I highly recommend this book.

To Steinhart, “believing in Dawkins” means continuing Dawkins’ work and making it more consistent and complete. It means “correcting his mistakes, making his larger ideas mutually consistent, completing his arguments, filling in the details of his sketches.” …

The weekly Turing Church newsletter has moved to turingchurch.com. Please subscribe!

Besides the newsletter, I also post stand-alone stories once or twice per week to turingchurch.com. There is also a Turing Church podcast with weekly episodes. Some episodes are monologues by me and others are recorded conversations with guests.

The website turingchurch.com, hosted by Substack, is now the main Turing Church website. I will continue to post to turingchurch.net now and then, but most of the action has moved to turingchurch.com.

Some posts and discussions are for paid subscribers only, but most (by far) of the content is free. Payments…

I am restoring here some pages from the old version of the website turingchurch.com, which has been moved to Substack (please subscribe!). This is an archive of some old pages about the Order of Cosmic Engineers, a Turing Church precursor that was active before 2010.

See Chapter 2 of “Tales of the Turing Church and references therein for the story of the Order of Cosmic Engineers.

I have launched a new Turing Church Substack newsletter. Please subscribe! This newsletter replaces the newsletter distributed via turingchurch.net.

I have assigned the domain www.turingchurch.com (previously assigned to an older Turing Church website) to this Turing Church newsletter.

This newsletter covers the intersections of science and religion, spirituality and technology, engineering and science fiction, mind and matter. Hacking religion, enlightening science, awakening technology. Exploring outer and inner spaces.

I write about metaphysics and also practical philosophy and culture.

Metaphysics is pristine and seems far from the actual reality of here and now, so I can write about it without discussing…

Identity politics, #MeToo, cancel culture… These trends start with good sentiments, but become toxic and dangerous when pushed to unreasonable and often ridiculous extremes.

The excesses of some extremists, which are tolerated if not encouraged by the mainstream left, are pushing more and more moderates (both moderate conservatives and moderate liberals)…

Our Turing Church Discord server has 100 members. I wish to invite all readers to join.

I have no intention of abandoning Facebook in the foreseeable future, but I want to use other communication channels as well.

In general, I don’t like it when a single company, or any single entity, can control too much of our discussions.

In particular, I’m not persuaded that Facebook intends to respect the freedom of thought (let alone the freedom to speech) of its users.

The things that we discuss in Turing Church are too metaphysical to attract the attention of the thought police…
